Team ARC shatters its goal, raising over $240,000 for the 2024 Enbridge Tour Alberta for Cancer

ARC’s high-performance culture is fueled by our high-performing people. From the energy we produce, to the energy we give back to our communities, our purpose-driven teams achieve results and consistently raise the bar in their pursuit of excellence.

Team ARC’s Journey to the 2024 Tour Alberta for Cancer

Last year, inspired by the passion of our employees, we joined the Enbridge Tour Alberta for Cancer as a Northern Lights Sponsor and assembled a team of 26 riders to join the province’s largest cycling fundraiser and one of Canada’s largest peer-to-peer fundraising events. In our first year, we set a goal of raising $50,000 to help support cancer research and care in Alberta. Friends, family and colleagues rallied around Team ARC, and we more than doubled this goal – raising more than $109,000 in year one.

Continuous improvement is engrained in our culture, so Team ARC set out to do even better in year two, and once again they delivered.

In 2024, our team grew to 50 riders who set their sights on raising $150,000. By engaging their personal and professional networks, and rallying the company around this important cause, not only did they achieve their ambitious goal, they far surpassed it – raising more than $240,000 to support Albertans in their cancer journeys.

Together, teams across Alberta pulled together and raised an incredible $7.5 million.

Finding Inspiration

In Alberta, nearly 60 people are diagnosed with cancer every day. With 23,000 new cancer diagnoses expected in Alberta this year, the funds raised from the annual Tour go a long way to support those in our communities who will unfortunately hear the words, “you have cancer”.

This year, one of ARC’s own was confronted with this diagnosis. After bravely completing 16 rounds of chemotherapy, 5 rounds of immunotherapy, undergoing surgery and beginning daily radiation treatments, Janie Munro joined Team ARC for the 2024 Tour and was asked to give the opening remarks at this year’s starting line to share her story and help inspire all the riders as they set out for the weekend.

Janie’s journey inspired many of ARC’s riders to get involved this year, sadly, her journey was only one of the tales of cancer’s impact on our team. Several riders have lost loved ones while others have family currently undergoing treatment. In many ways cancer has touched the lives of our entire team, inspiring them to honor those lost and help provide more moments to those still fighting their battles.

Conquering the Long Road

Each member of Team ARC had their own motivation for taking on the challenge of the ride, they all approached the weekend from different levels of fitness and cycling experience, but they were united in their desire to help. Whether they set out to ride 65 km, push themselves to tackle 100 km, or challenge themselves with 140 km, the team came together, supported each other and each rider crossed the finish line stronger for the experience. At the end of the ride weekend, Team ARC collectively pedalled nearly 10,000 km and formed strong bonds through their shared experience.

Thank you to each of our riders for taking on this challenge and sharing the energy that moves ARC forward to help Albertans in the fight against cancer. And thank you to everyone who donated and volunteered to help facilitate a truly incredible weekend that will continue to have a huge impact on our community.

Year three, here we come!
