ARC celebrates successful year of Classroom Champions program

World-class athlete mentorship program for students is offered in 87 schools across Western Canada

ARC joined world-class athletes Devin WardropeCole Zajanski and Grace Dafoe  to celebrate a successful year of Classroom Champions programming with participating schools in Grande Prairie and Fort St. John.

Coming together to create long-term impacts

Through the ‘Energizing Communities Collective,’ ARC and a group of more than 20 energy companies work collaboratively to bring the athlete mentorship program to more than 9,500 students, including 31 Indigenous communities. The Classroom Champions program is offered in 87 schools across Western Canada including ARC’s operating areas of Dawson Creek, Grande Prairie and Fort St. John. ARC has made a commitment of $300,000 over three years to the program, which teaches students the power of perseverance and how to thrive socially, emotionally, and academically through mentorship and ongoing engagement with athlete role models.

Celebrating student success and meeting mentors

Throughout the year, the program connects classrooms with elite athlete mentors from a wide range of sports to support their development through virtual mentor sessions. This year, ARC made a special trip to a couple of the schools to see the students meet their athlete mentors face-to-face and celebrate their achievements through the program.

First up, ARC joined Olympic hopefuls for Doubles Luge and Classroom Champion athlete mentors Devin Wardrope and Cole Zajanski as they visited Hillside School in Grande Prairie.

The athletes spent some quality time in the classrooms and even brought along some of their luge equipment for the students to check out. Next, team ARC joined Canadian National Skeleton athlete Grace Dafoe for an energy-packed visit with the students at Duncan Cran School in Fort St. John. Grace and the ARC team visited the classrooms and the whole school came together for an assembly to celebrate. At each school, the ARC team hosted a celebration lunch and participated in some fun activities with the athletes and students.
